Podiatry is a field of medicine that is devoted to the study and treatment of disorders of the foot, ankle, knee, and hip (collectively known as the lower extremity).
As a doctor of podiatric medicine, I aim to improve the overall health and well-being of patients by focusing on preventing, diagnosing, and treating conditions associated with the foot and ankle, specifically.
A strong educational background
A good education cannot be compromised. Dr. Harper completed his undergraduate training at The University of Utah. He was accepted into the Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine (FKA Pennsylvania College of Podiatric Medicine) and graduated with honors in 1994.
He completed a two (2) year surgical residency, in 1996, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Chicago, where he served as the chief resident in his final year.
In 1996, Dr. Harper became a diplomat of the American Board of Podiatric Surgeons.
Dr. Harper is certified in the use of Shockwave treatment (Dornier and Ossatron) for plantar fasciitis (heel spur syndrome), and in the use of endoscopic and arthroscopic procedures of the foot and ankle. These all require special training and certification.
Dr. Harper is an active member of both the American Podiatric Medical Association and the Utah Podiatric Medical Association.
Dr. Harper serves as an attending physician to the Health South Podiatric Residency Program.
Dr. Harper is an active member of the Mountain West Podiatric Group where he has previously served as President.
Dr. Harper is an active member of the Utah Podiatry Group (UPG), located in the new office buildings attached to Salt Lake Regional Hospital. UPG offers advanced reconstructive surgery of the foot and ankle as well as advanced diabetic foot care. The meeting rooms and office operatory suites are frequently utilized for advanced training on new surgical techniques.

Clinical Research and Trials
Dr. Harper has successfully completed multiple Diabetic Ulceration and Bunion (Pain) studies.

The field of podiatric medicine is always changing. By keeping up with the changes in podiatric medicine, Dr. Harper can provide you with the best possible care using the latest technology, medical procedures, and medications available. There are many ways for a podiatrist to stay abreast of new developments in our field and Dr. Harper believes that staying actively involved in professional associations, networking with colleagues, continuing education through seminars and conferences, subscribing to professional subscriptions as well as participating in professional mentoring programs such as residency programs. These all aide in keeping his skills refined and keeping him informed.
The personal side of Dr. Harper
Dr. Harper is married with three great kids. He is an avid outdoorsman. He finds down time by fishing, camping, hunting, and ATVing with his family. He also likes to tool around the yard on his tractor or take a ride in his 1974 Toyota Land Cruiser.
